Communication: April 10, 2020

Dear Akamai applicants,

It is with sadness we write to inform you that we are forced to cancel the 2020 Akamai Internship. We have been in communication with the different work sites, housing sites, considering policy from University of Hawaii and University of California, and most importantly, considering the health and safety of at-risk and vulnerable members of the community. It has become clear that coordinating with different policies and timelines will pose too much of a challenge to safely move forward with the internship this year.

This is tremendously disappointing for us, as we know it will be for you. Having gone through the application and selection processes, we were so excited to meet you and see you flourish with some great projects this summer. The Akamai team is scrambling to undo all the planning we have done, but will soon reach out again to see if there are any small activities that you would be interested in or other small ways to support you this summer. We will be in touch soon.

Furthermore, we really hope that those of you who are able to apply again next year will do so. While acceptance into the program is dependent on many factors, we would certainly give strong consideration to you all as accepted interns into this year’s program. In the meantime please stay safe and healthy.

Thank you,

Sent on behalf of Lisa Hunter and the Akamai team
