Communication: April 10, 2020

Dear Akamai Mentors,

It is with sadness we write to inform you that we are forced to cancel the 2020 Akamai Internship, along with the Mentor Workshop. We have been in communication with the different work sites, housing sites, considering policy from University of Hawaii and University of California, and most importantly, considering the health and safety of at-risk and vulnerable members of the community. It has become clear that coordinating with different policies and timelines will pose too much of a challenge to safely move forward with the internship this year.

This is tremendously disappointing for us, as we know it will be for you. Having gone through the application and selection processes, we were so excited to work with many of you in the Mentor Workshop and to welcome new interns into your sites for the summer.

The Akamai team is scrambling to undo all the planning we have done, but will soon reach out again to accepted interns and our mentor community to see if there are any small activities that people would be interested in or other small ways to support you and the students this summer. We will be in touch soon. In the meantime please stay safe and healthy.

Thank you,

Sent on behalf of Lisa Hunter and the Akamai team
