Communication: March 10, 2020

Dear PDP community,

It is with sadness we write to inform you that we are forced to cancel the 2020 Professional Development Program (PDP). We have been monitoring the situation with regard to the coronavirus, COVID-19. In consideration of evolving university policy, CDC guidelines, group activities at the PDP Institutes, and most importantly the health and safety of at-risk and vulnerable members of the community, we have been directed by UCSC to cancel the Inquiry and Design Institutes.

We have considered possible options that would sustain the PDP experience in spite of cancelling our in-person events. However, we recognize that the success of PDP and individual teaching teams is critically dependent on the PDP Institutes. For this reason, we regretfully must cancel the full 2020 PDP.  We know that this will impact the PDP teaching venues and we are currently working through how to address those plans. We ask for your patience and will get back to you as soon as we know more.

While this decision is disappointing, please be assured that you will be reimbursed for moneys you have spent to book your travel.

Please review the attachment regarding travel reimbursements for incurred travel expenses. If you have incurred expenses for PDP related travel, please submit this FORM by March 17th.

This is tremendously disappointing for us, as we know it will be for you. For many, the PDP is not just about becoming more effective educators, but is a time of rejuvenation and connection with old and new friends. We will all miss seeing you in Monterey and collaborating with you on your teaching endeavors through the PDP. The ISEE team is scrambling to undo all the planning we have done, and will soon turn our attention to creative ways that we can provide at least some PDP resources to you, as well as what happens in the future. We will be in touch soon. In the meantime please stay safe and healthy.

Thank you,

Sent on behalf of Lisa Hunter and the ISEE team
